Piling platform reinforced with Terrastop® High Strength woven from Polyfabrics

The Project

Our client secured the contract to build a piling platform in Port Kembla, close to the sprawling steelworks site. 

To ensure the rigidity and safety of the service road whilst the project was taking place, the contractor needed to engineer a platform to support construction vehicles.  

The Challenges

The specification indicated project quantity of bespoke geogrid should be used to reinforce the platform, however, this product was not in stock in the proposed project quantity.

Faced with 12 weeks of import lead time on this specific geosynthetic product, the client decided to work with Polyfabrics to find a faster, more cost-effective solution. 

We worked with the client and his civil contractor to obtain the design engineer’s approval to use a faster, smarter and cheaper solution that was in stock for an immediate construction start.

Our Solution

Our Terrastop® High Strength woven biaxial 300x300kN geotextile provided a superior solution that was structurally stronger to handle higher wheel loads. It also allowed for the use of a thinner, cheaper (and locally available) engineered fill which eliminated the need for the original expensive sub-base. 

Plus, it was in stock for immediate supply, meaning our solution saved the client from a potential 12-week delay!
